Fall 2024 Virtual Workshops

Managing your inner critic

a virtual workshop

Wednesday, September 18, 2024, noon to 1:15 pm, EDT

That voice inside your head, you know the one. Some people call it self-doubt. Some call it “imposter syndrome.” I prefer to call it the inner critic. The inner critic is the voice that tells us we are not experienced enough, not good enough, not smart enough, not strong enough, not lovable enough. It is the voice that spins round and round. When we are overwhelmed by the inner critic voice, we ruminate and get stuck contemplating worst case scenarios. The inner critic gets in the way of our larger goals. In this workshop I’ll offer some practical strategies for recognizing and managing the inner critic voice.

We get feedback all the time--formally such as in annual reviews and informally such as that casual remark that passes some kind of judgment on us—positive or negative. We use that feedback to judge how others are perceiving us and to make adjustments in our performance. We also give feedback all the time--to peers, team members, and even to our bosses. But not all feedback is created equal. We don’t always make constructive use of feedback or give it in the most helpful way. In this workshop, participants will learn practical tools for giving and receiving useful feedback from peers and superiors and assessing how and when to use that feedback to improve our performance without sabotaging our self-confidence.

fall 2024 Virtual Book Club

Wednesdays, Oct. 2, Oct. 16, and Oct. 30, 12-1 pm EDT

Join me and a group of peers as we dig deep into the deeply-researched book Supercommunicators: How to Unlock the Secret Language of Connection, by Charles Duhigg (Random House, 2024). This book has really changed how I think about conversations. Duhigg explores why some people are very good at building connections with others—and why some people are not. Digging into real life case studies from the jury room, the Central Intelligence Agency, Netflix, and the writers’ room for “Big Bang Theory,” he demonstrates how supercommunicators work. If you want to improve your skills in communicating, read or listen to this book and join us to discuss. Feel free to bring your lunch!

$59 for three sessions
