These are challenging times for academic leaders. Continuing uncertainties generated by the pandemic, economic pressures created by rising costs and and a decade-long decline in enrollment, and the fact that today’s students need more support services—all these conditions demand that academic leaders cultivate resilience and flexibility to function effectively in this fluid environment.
To help you meet these challenges, Heyday Coaching is offering a facilitated peer coaching circles for academic leaders. A facilitated peer coaching group brings together a group of peers facing similar challenges, guided by an experienced coach. Shared experiences and a curious and open approach create a supportive space where peers can be heard, supported, and encouraged in their own growth. It is not a problem-solving group, but an intentional space where we use dialogue as a tool for learning, dealing with change, and generating resilience.
Whether you are a department chair, a dean, a program director or a faculty member in a major leadership role, you may benefit from participation in a peer coaching circle. Participants commit to showing up and engaging for every session, supporting peers, honoring the confidentiality of the group, and operating within “touchstones” that serve as boundaries for our interactions. The group will be 5-8 participants and for the sake of confidentiality, no more than one person from an institution will be enrolled. The groups will be facilitated by Melissa Walker, Ph.D., a coach with more than 30 years experience on both the faculty and administrative sides of higher education.

What past participants say about facilitated peer coaching circles:
The best thing about this experience was the intentionality of making this time to think about what I was innately processing with a group of dedicated, smart, empathetic peers.
I appreciated the community, the mindful exercises and having a safe space to ask questions and garner feedback. I learned something from everyone in the group and appreciated the different perspectives they brought to the table.
I’m not sure what made the course so incredibly meaningful – but I believe it was a combination of a small group setting with great people, thought-provoking material and Melissa’s ability to create a safe space for authentic dialogue.
Melissa created a supportive community that I found incredibly helpful during this challenging time. She guided our conversations and gave us space to encourage each other as we navigated these transitions. I really enjoyed setting aside time to connect with people throughout the country who were facing similar experiences. It’s a community worth being a part of.
The group was the highlight of my week. It brought me an incredible sense of community through open dialogue, thoughtful discussion prompts and a safe space to gather, share, listen, and support. In a time of uncertainty, I enjoyed the peace and calm this group provided. It offered moments for camaraderie, reflection, and self-care, and it reaffirmed my strength, resolve, passion, and vocation.
